About Dede

     Dierdre "Dede" K. Scozzafava was born in Buffalo, New York, and is a life-long North Country resident.  Dede graduated from Gouverneur High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Boston University School of Management, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Clarkson Graduate School of Management.

    youth1-small Dede was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1998.  She has dedicated much of her life to community service as both a Village of Gouverneur Trustee for four years and Mayor of the Village of Gouverneur from 1993 until her election to the Assembly.  As Mayor, Dede led the Village from an inherited budget deficit to a positive fund balance while also creating the Gouverneur Area Microenterprise Revolving Loan Fund to help spur local job growth.  Other important accomplishments, which included setting up a natural gas utility  for village residents and upgrading the village water plant, resulted in Dede receiving the New York State Conference of Mayors' Award.

     Dede has been appointed to serve on the Assembly Standing Committees of Ways and Means, Ethics and Guidance, and Banks for the 2005-2006 Legislative Session, and is the Ranking Member on the Assembly's Codes Committee.  Dede has also been appointed to serve on the Manufacturing Task Force and is Chairwoman of the SAVE Task Force.  Previously, she served on the Task Force on Education Standards, the Nursing Shortage Task Force, the Legislative Commission on Critical Transportation Choices, and the Task Force on Integrative Medicine and Agriculture.

     Dede is the Chief Operationg Officer for Seaway Capital Partners and Corporate Secretary for Wise Buys Stores.  She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Gouverneur, a member of the Gouverneur Business Women, and an associate member of the Gouverneur Arts Club.  Dede was the President of the St. Lawrence County Mayors Association, 1994-1995 and 1996-1997.

     Dede and her husband, Ron McDougall, reside in Gouverneur with their two children, Matt and Molly.
